World Cup 2010 Groupings

When I was young I had always thought that the Group of Death always had to be Group D, because ‘D’ stood for death, but now I know better.

It’s easy to see which the toughest, roughest, hardest group it is from here, because any team facing Brazil, surely will confess as such.

So how apt it is that the South Africa 2010 World Cup includes the mighty Brazil, the brazen Ivory Coast, the outsiders North Korea, and the enigmatic Portugal.

Plenty of Ballon D’or nominees in that group, to show just how much quality it has.

A quick look at the other groups and you can probably predict the teams that will be going through to the next round or those that will probably top their tables respectively.

The South Africa 2010 World Cup will no doubt be the spectacle that everyone everywhere all over the world will be beating their hearts for, come next year.

In a way it has already created much interesting domestic leagues in Europe, where the players are eager to perform in the hope of getting picked for their national teams.

Or it could be a bane for players as well, like performing too much and playing overzealously.

Perhaps it has already gotten onto the head of Liverpool’s young Lucas to perform well, but I think he might have misheard it as to perform withtout making much mistakes, because the way he is playing it seems like he’s just not willing to take risks within the game.

Too bad Lucas”s play it safe and simple mentality seems to be causing a lack of creative impetus within the Reds.

At times like these, players need to take risks to stand out and be counted, and no such players exemplify it better than Gerrard and Torres, who often break limbs and ligaments in pursuit of excellence.

But lets hope these players don not put too much focus into the upcoming world cup, but instead draw their attention and strengths into tonight’s away game against Blackburn Rovers.

A hard to beat team at home, Blackburn’s sprinkling of world cup players will no doubt be looking to cement a place in their national teams as well.

It is not going to be a walk in the park, but with the quality of Red’s players and the threat of the returning Torres in the squad, Liverpool might just have enough to win the game tonight.
